The current situation is unacceptable, and we are setting out to change it People with sickle cell disease (SCD) are afflicted on two fronts — one by having a serious, chronic condition that inflicts pain and other complications — the other by a fragmented system of care.
New ways of managing this disease have improved diagnosis and supportive care over the last few decades, but most patients still have severe complications to overcome. The future of care for patients relies on advanced and highly targeted approaches to research, discovery, and implementation of proven and new treatments. We want to ensure that patients with SCD receive state-of-the-art care.
