The coronavirus is a flu-like virus. It causes an illness called COVID-19. People with SCD and their families might feel especially worried about the coronavirus virus outbreak. SCD can lower your ability to fight infection. So people with SCD are among those at higher risk of complications.

 

We are fundraising to help our families protect their children with Sickle Cell and Thalasseamia during this time. SCD sufferers fall under the government classified extremely vulnerable category.

 

The latest government guidance strongly advises people with serious underlying health conditions to rigorously follow shielding measures in order to keep themselves safe.This includes all patients with sickle cell (e.g. HbSS, HbS Beta thalassaemia, HbSC, HbSD, HbSO).

 

A hospital admission for a child with SCD during this is preferably avoidable where at all possible. Our objective is to support the parents and families looking after young children with SCD by providing care packages of key supplements to boost immunity during this time.
