Crescent Kids mission is to give every child and family impacted with sickle cell and thalassemia support services to improve their quality of life.

Our Trustees

Our trustees provide strategic guidance and direction, ensuring that goals are in place to drive forward our support of the research and treatment of Sickle Cell & Thalassemia.

Professor Alastair Sutcliffe

Alastair is a Professor of Paediatrics, and has looked after sick children for 30 years, and as a consultant paediatrician most recently at UCLH.

​

He presently works in research as a Professor at the UCL and Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.

​

His ambition is to improve children’s lives through research and has contributed much over the years . Looking after sick children at the bedside has motivated him to find treatments and cures for childhood illnesses.

Mary Akinbiyi

Mary is a staunch advocate for children with life limiting conditions and is a strong voice for ensuring their needs across all key areas of life are met.

​

A carer for her own son with Epilepsy she has over 30 years experience in navigating the healthcare systems and fighting for the rights of children that cannot speak for themselves.

Jonathan Rivers

Jonathan is a Cloud solutions architect working in the Information Technology Sector. He has been designing and implementing cloud infrastructure platforms for 15 years for a number of global corporate organisations as well as within the public sector and Healthcare. Jonathan currently works at the National Grid and in his spare time runs a cloud solutions company.

​

In 2004 Jonathan sadly lost two of his siblings to Sickle Cell. Jonathan sees a direct correlation between the passing of his mother who implemented an exceptionally healthy diet and holistic lifestyle. Jonathan is passionate about the services Crescent Kids can provide both from a medical research perspective and by way of supporting families as they navigate life with this devastating condition.
